We are pleased to announce that JAWS 16 and MAGic 13 are ready for Windows 10. If you have not updated to the latest builds of JAWS and MAGic yet, please do so. Below, we have provided the steps to follow depending on which version of Windows you are upgrading from. Please review and follow these steps to ensure older versions of JAWS and MAGic have been removed first, before executing the Windows 10 Upgrade. A utility tool is available to assist you during this process.

Updating from Windows 8.1
- Download and install JAWS 16.0.4350 or higher, or MAGic 13.0.1119 or higher.
- Download and run the utility tool to help remove older versions of JAWS and MAGic.
- Perform the update to Windows 10. After the update, JAWS 16 and MAGic 13 will continue working as expected.
Updating from Windows 7
- Download and save JAWS 16 and MAGic 13 to a location on your computer where you can easily find it later, such as your Downloads folder, as you will need it after the Windows 10 upgrade.
- Download and run the utility tool to remove older versions of JAWS, MAGic, and OpenBook.
- Perform the upgrade to Windows 10.
- After upgrading to Windows 10:
- JAWS users can now install JAWS 16.0.4350 or higher to install or repair their previously installed version. Note, some users who performed a repair of JAWS after the upgrade experienced issues with the Start Menu not speaking. If you experience this problem, you will need to remove JAWS and re-install.
- MAGic users can now install MAGic 13.0.1119 or higher for MAGic to work in Windows 10.
- OpenBook users can now install OpenBook 9 or higher for OpenBook to work in Windows 10.
Additional Recommendations from Microsoft
For web browsing, Microsoft recommends that users of assistive technology avoid the new default Edge browser at this time and switch to Internet Explorer or another browser you may have used in Windows 8.1 or Windows 7. To change the default browser, do the following:
- Open Settings by typing "settings" into the Windows 10 Search box, or press WINDOWS Key+I.
- Enter Default programs.
- Choose Set your default programs.
- Select Internet Explorer from the list of programs.
- Select Set this program as the default, then select OK.
For email, Microsoft recommends users of assistive technology not use the built-in email client at this time. We suggest you continue using email clients such as Outlook or Thunderbird.
For PDF documents, Microsoft recommends users install a third-party reader such as Adobe Acrobat Reader 11 or Adobe Acrobat DC.
